AVG Free on Fedora 20 (64bit)

I have been using AVG free on some other Linux distros as well.  Works great for scanning Windows files, without actually using Windows.

Download AVG Free
Download :    http://free.avg.com/us-en/download.prd-alf

Configuration :

     /opt/avg/av/bin/avgsetup

Running :

sudo avgctl –start [ restart | stop ]

Updating :

sudo avgupdate

Scanning :

avgscan file_to_scan

Components :

WD - WatchDog
Sched - Scheduler
Tcpd - Email server
Avid - AviLoader
Oad - On-access scanner
Aspam - Antispam

Note that AVG for Linux has no GUI, all command line.

Using the program is straightforward. First you need to start the AVG daemon: run “sudo avgctl –start“. Then you can use “sudo avgupdate” to update the software, and “avgscan” to scan a given file.

was getting  bad ELF interpreter: No such file or directory
yum install glibc.i686
now Error: Component connection is unavailable. avgd is not running or is not yet fully initialized.had to avgsetup
then avgupdate
